Our Academic Scholarships

A cornerstone of the Women in Conflict Zones Initiative is a variety of scholarships dedicated to providing access to education to women and girls unable to pursue educational pathways in their home countries, due to ongoing conflict.

One set of scholarships that has been delivered under the WICZ Initiative is a collaboration between Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Qatar Foundation, and the Digital Citizens Fund, offering full educational scholarships in Qatar to the all-female Afghan robotics team—The Afghan Dreamers—whom recently had to evacuate from Afghanistan, and whom now will be able to continue and complete their studies within the academic institutions of Qatar’s Education City.

QFFD has also provided scholarships through Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures Programme, a collaboration with the Dutch NGO, SPARK, and Qatari NGO Education Above All (EAA). The programme, which targets Palestinian postsecondary students of underserved backgrounds in Gaza, avails opportunities for them to actualise their potential by overcoming socioeconomic limitations and enabling them to become productive members of society. The programme provides both vocational and higher-education scholarships, as well as leadership and advocacy training and career-related support to bridge the gap between academic studies and professional life. Through Al Fakhoora, QFFD and EAA have provided more than 5 million girls with access to primary education for, approximately 36,500 girls with access to secondary education, and scholarships for nearly 9,000 girls to pursue their higher education.

Qatar Scholarships, a program launched in 2019 by QFFD in collaboration with leading educational institutions in Qatar, funds the studies of qualified international students from developing countries. One of the objectives of Qatar Scholarships is to provide access to education to women and girls in conflict zones. To date, Qatar Scholarships has awarded scholarships to over 200 women from 43 developing countries with our partners Qatar University, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, Lusail University, and Hamad Bin Khalifa University in partnership with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. The diverse fields of study available across the program are aimed at developing student potential so that they can contribute to addressing complex issues that our world and their countries face, including international relations, development economics, conflict management, public law, human rights, journalism, social work, and public policy.

Women in conflict zones are eligible and encouraged to apply for Qatar Scholarships.
